Attachment Parenting International thanks you for your interest in sharing our content. API's resources are a collective effort of thousands of parents and professionals from around the world donating their time and talents to advance API's mission since the organization was founded in 1994. It is because of the dedication and hard work of API's volunteers that API can sustain its services to families. API espouses the same values promoted in secure parent-child attachment relationships: trust, empathy, honesty, integrity, respect, and compassion. API trusts that the intellectual work that the organization has created will be respected with proper attribution and credit, and invites you to help ensure the integrity of API's information.

Reprint/Reproduction Permission

Copyright law permits an individual to make one copy of any material for personal, noncommercial purposes only. Any other reproduction or photocopy of API's content, in its entirety or an excerpt, by any individual or entity requires permission from API, whether for print, online, or broadcast purposes. Depending on the use, a fee may apply. Permission is granted on a nonexclusive, one-time use only.

Permission is required for each separate product to be shared. Permission granted for one product does not convey permission granted for another, even if the copyright of both is held by API, a specific API publication, issue of publication, or the same author. For permission to reproduce/reprint a variety of API materials, contact info@attachmentparenting.org.

Some of API's content has been reprinted with permission from another organization or individual. API does not hold the copyright to these materials. Permission to reproduce these materials must be obtained from the copyright holder, not API. The same Terms of Use are applied to advertisements.

To obtain permission to share API's information, or to inquire about who owns the copyright to certain articles, send the following information to info@attachmentparenting.org:

  • Article or Teleseminar title
  • Author
  • Publication or Program name
  • Link if an online piece or teleseminar, or issue (Volume, Number, and Year of Publication) if a periodical
  • Specify whether the reprint would be in full or an excerpt (and the proposed excerpt)
  • Specify intended use
  • Your full contact name and position, name of your organization and its status (for-profit, nonprofit, individual), phone number, and email address.

Unless agreed otherwise, any reprint must be used in its entirety, unedited (except for minor proofreading to change style, such as from AP to APA style), and accompanied by a statement that denotes the article's origins and copyright:

By (author name), (publication name), reprinted with permission by Attachment Parenting International, www.attachmentparenting.org. Copyright (year). All rights reserved.

Requests may take up to six weeks to process and are processed first come, first serve. Submit requests as early as possible. Please do not call or email to follow up on a request unless it has been more than six weeks since your request.

Once requests have been processed, a permission agreement will be emailed detailing conditions of use. If a request requires a fee, payment is due before reprint permission will be granted. Permissions will not be granted over the phone. Alternate routes of transmitting written agreements will be considered, including postal mail and fax.

Customized Reprints

Much of API's content online, such as the APtly Said blog or TheAttachedFamily.com online magazine, cannot be printed or copied from the site. Also, there are other certain uses of API's content, such as handouts or sharing of specific articles within Attached Family magazine or Journal of API, that require customized reprints -- that is, API Staff can create special reproductions of requested material. Depending on the use, quantity, and end product (hard copy versus PDF), fees may apply.

For more information, or to request a customized reprint, contact info@attachmentparenting.org.
