Didn't happen to me but I know of 4 people who had this happen in the last 6 months.

One was just nursing round the clock, she had only 1 light period, just was hungry all the time and felt odd, she was 9 weeks when she found out.

Another friend was feeding hourly and got pregnant when her daughter was 4 months old. She had less milk, sore breasts and tested and positive.

I know people like to trust nursing to stop them from getting pregnant, but from the years I've been around nursing mothers I've seen it happen loads. If you don't want to get pregnant use birth control, nursing isn't the same thing no matter what they claim

I dosn't matter to me either way really, just wanted to know what to 'look' for.

At 8mo pp, I had 1 very light period. Then 4wks later, nothing. (I tested multiple times) I assumed it was a fluke. 2 weeks after that (6wks from the light period), I just felt odd. Something in my head told me to go test. I was pregnant.

Nursing at least 7 to 10 times a day at that point still....

Sorry... feeling "odd" doesn't really help, huh? I think that for the most part, we are pretty in tune with our bodies and when something is different we just know.

So you're asking about conception prior to first return of menses?

this was how my second came to be. her sister was nursing like a newborn. i hadnt had any sign of having menses again.
then on a roadtrip somwhere outside of albuquerque i felt a little nauseous. i get carsick so i ignored it. the thought of food was wholly unappetizing. but when i did eat it was wonderful and i ate lots.
then i started noticing that all fabrics suddenly smelt of death. ugh. but only i could smell it...and i was sooooo incredibly thirsty all of a sudden.
i didnt put two and two together... i thought i had diabetes.
luckily i was just pregnant.
i was about 7 weeks when it started with the symptoms...

That's so funny Layla that you say that about smells of fabric and the food descriptions because often when i described my feelings with the pregnancies people would look at me like I had 2 heads? Does not everyone have sensations like that just are unable to describe them or are some of us more sensitive to smells etc... Well, I haven't taken a test, but still no change in menses state. I did get a crampy type feeling last week..... So who knows what is going on in there?

smells were it for me too..burned my nose..hurt to breathe... it was so sensitive with both my kiddos...

I was 11 months pp, and I had been TTC so I was looking for signs. My first sign was sore breasts, and after that it was extreme fatigue.

I'm SO glad this was a thread because our son is 25 months today (still nursing all day/night ecologically), and for the last two weeks, I thought I was pregnant too up until I got my first period postpartum two days ago. EVERYTHING pointed towards pregnancy though... tender breasts/nipples when he nursed, urinating more frequently, moody/weepy, my sense of smell was more keen, bloated, tired, food aversions, nauseous, you name it. I took two tests that were both negative, but I thought it was because I took them too early (we use NFP so I thought I should've known when to take a test, but I just figured it was still too early for me to have enough hormone present). Anyhow... I was SO fooled into thinking I was pregnant even when I had light spotting the first day. Now that I'm on day three of my period with pressure below (no cramping anymore after having my first child... yea!) from what my midwife said was probably due to my uterus feeling heavy from dropping during menses, I am sure that I probably had an anovulatory first period after nursing for so long.

I hope you and everyone else is able to tell more easily than I was as to if it is pregnancy or period. I was sort of relieved for just some sort of an answer so that now my husband and I can be ready with our charting to try to conceive.

My dh and I are ttc and I am still bf my 9 mo old. Only had 1 very light spotting a few months back but no positive yet! I really hope it happens soon. We really want the next baby close. DD1 is 5 and DD2 is 8 mo.

I am still having a hard time ttc, my daughter is still nursing at 20 months and my cycles are still all over the place.

I'm 35 and just had my first baby 8 months ago and wished in a way that I hadn't waited so long, b/c I want a zillion more! We had worked w/ an infertility specialist b/c I was anovulatory (but ended up getting pregnant on our own!), and I haven't gotten my period yet so I just KNOW I won't until I'm done breastfeeding. We're going back to the dr in March (he's on medical leave until then, figures!) to see what he recommends. B/c of my age I am feeling a lot of urgency. I'm hoping not to have to choose between nursing as long as baby needs me to, and getting pregnant again SOON

Juleen - I can relate! We ttc for years before it happened. I've been BFing DD for 14 months now and have not yet seen a PP AF. I'm not temping or anything, but I have been watching for fertility signs. I get EWCM about once a month, but it doesn't seem to indicate ovulation - maybe just gearing-up for ovulation. I have to mention this because I am SO CURIOUS if other people have had it, too. But the cervix is soft, like during O, almost all the time. I wondered if BFing hormones did that or what???

Anyway - Just recently I had very painful breasts and I thought, "Woo hoo! This is it!" but it turned out to only be double mastitis.

So...waiting, waiting, waiting....
