We have the capacity for what neuroscientists call "limbic resonance," a process whereby two people become attuned to each other's inner states. We actually adjust our own physiology to mirror the other's; in turn, the partner's inner state adjusts to mirror our own. No wonder "eye contact" is so powerful!
